2022 MOGSouth Noggin (4 Mar 2022) and Cars and Coffee at Amelia Island (5 Mar 2022)

The Amelia Island Concours is now owned by Hagerty.   While a few things have changed, most things have remained the same.   ‘The Amelia’ as they now call it will continue to have the Cars and Coffee event on the Saturday (Mar 5, 2022) prior to the Concours, however it is now called ‘Cars & Caffeine’.

MOGSouth will continue to have the Friday evening Noggin on (Mar 4, 2022) at the Surf Restaurant along A1A, 3199 S. Fletcher Avenue, Fernandina Beach, FL.

As of 13 January, ‘The Amelia’ has yet to announce the requirements for attendance at the ‘Cars & Caffeine’ event on Saturday 6 March, nor have they posted the requisite application form or process. We continue to monitor their web site daily and will broadcast an email to the MOGSouth membership as soon as they do post the information. We are assuming it will operate just how it has before. However, things may change so be flexible. So, bottom line, put the dates on the calendar, and when we get the word, we will let you know!

Also, there will be no designated hotel in Jacksonville this year, nor any designated convoy of Morgans coming from Jacksonville to Amelia Island on Saturday morning. Some folks are staying on Amelia Island, as there are a number of new hotels there, while others are continuing to stay in Jacksonville. The A Loft Hotel used by MOGSouth for the 2021 Fall Meet was well received and some folks are going back there.

We will convene the MOGSouth Noggin around 5 PM, on Friday (Mar 4, 2022) evening, at the Surf Restaurant.  We used this location last year and there were no complaints.  Food was fine, beer was cold, there was plenty of space (both indoors and outdoors) and plenty of parking!   Tics all the boxes!!

There is sufficient covered space on their patio if the weather doesn’t cooperate (but just in case, I might bring a jacket or wind breaker!)  Also, I don’t know what the regional virus requirements will be, so do bring a mask.  And, please don’t come if you are feeling ill or have any symptoms.

The Saturday ‘Cars and Caffeine’ event (Mar 5, 2022) will be held as usual on the golf course near the Ritz, the day before the Sunday Concours.

If it is like last year, you must have applied, paid a registration fee and received back an acceptance ‘ticket’ in the mail.  (They have limited space so folks that wait to apply will likely be turned away.)  Bring this ticket on Saturday.  (In the past, the acceptance ‘ticket’ has been a letter of acceptance with a windshield sticker.  I am not sure what this year’s acceptance ‘ticket’ will be.)  Whatever it may be, without it, they are not likely to let you into the show with your car, so bring it.

And if there is any uncertainty as to whether you will go or not, don’t wait, just apply anyway and get your acceptance ‘ticket.’   There are always folks that applied too late or for some other reason did not get an acceptance ‘ticket’ and would like one.   Let us know and we will try to play match maker with your acceptance ‘ticket.’

As is the norm, all the Morgans will rendezvous on Saturday morning (Mar 5, 2022) at 0730 (yes, I know this is early but . . . ), at the front of the Surf Restaurant.  (Going in together assures we are parked together.)   There is parking in the lot out front of the Surf Restaurant where we will convene.  (Note: We will only stay a few minutes and then head off to the Cars and Coffee location.)  This will give us sufficient time to drive to the Cars and Coffee event and get parked together in the designated Morgan area.

If you miss our little convoy (we will leave the Surf NLT 0800 Saturday morning) you may not be parked with the rest of the Morgans.

2021 MOGSouth Noggin / Cars and Coffee at Amelia Island (21-22 May 2021)

MOGSouth will now have the Noggin on Friday evening (May 21, 2021) at the Surf Restaurant along A1A, 3199 S. Fletcher Avenue, Fernandina Beach, FL.

The location for the Friday evening MOGSouth Noggin is new this year. Last year’s location had certain advantages but there were also some disadvantages.

We will convene the MOGSouth Noggin around 5 PM at the Surf Restaurant.

We haven’t used this location for the Noggin before, but the staff seems excited to have us there.

The menu looks quite good and there appears to be sufficient parking. They have us on their patio (outside but there is covered space if needed) so if the weather doesn’t cooperate, I would recommend bringing a jacket or wind breaker.  Also, I don’t know what the regional virus requirements will be, so do bring a mask.  And, please don’t come if you are feeling ill or have any symptoms.

The Saturday Cars and Coffee event (May 22, 2021) will be held as usual, the Saturday following the MOGSouth Noggin, the day before the big Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, May 23, 2021.  You must have applied, paid your fee and received back an acceptance ‘ticket’ in the mail.   Bring this ticket on Saturday. Without this, they will not let you show your car, however you can attend as a spectator.

As is the norm, all the Morgans will rendezvous on Saturday morning at 0730 (yes, I know this is early but . . . ), before the Cars and Coffee event. (There is parking in the lot out front of the Surf Restaurant, as well as behind the restaurant. Note: We will only stay a few minutes and then head off to the Cars and Coffee location.)  This will give us sufficient time to drive to the Cars and Coffee event and get parked together in the designated Morgan area.

If you miss our little convoy (we will leave the Surf NLT 0800 Saturday morning) you may not be parked with the Morgans.

Cheers,
Mark

CALENDAR CHANGE: 2021 MOGSouth Noggin / Cars and Coffee at Amelia Island (New Dates: 21-22 May)

The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance has rescheduled their Concours event. It was in March 2021 but now has move to May 20-23, 2021. The MOGSouth Noggin is now the evening of 21 May and the Cars and Coffee at Amelia is 22 May, 2021.

The location for the Friday evening MOGSouth Noggin is new this year. Last year’s location had certain advantages but there were also some disadvantages.

MOGSouth will now have the Noggin on Friday evening (May 21, 2021) at the Surf Restaurant along A1A, 3199 S. Fletcher Avenue, Fernandina Beach, FL.

We will convene the MOGSouth Noggin around 5 PM at the Surf Restaurant.

We haven’t used this location for the Noggin, as yet, but the staff seems quite excited to have us. The menu looks quite good and there appears to be sufficient parking. (Click on the link above to go to their web page!) We have negotiated a completely outside patio location, so do bring a wind breaker if the weather gets a bit cool, and if you are more comfortable with a mask, bring it! Please don’t come if you are feeling ill or have symptoms of the recent virus.

The Saturday Cars and Coffee event (May 22, 2021) will be held as usual, the Saturday following the MOGSouth Noggin, the day before the big Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, May 23, 2021. All acceptances previously provided by the Concours organizers will be honored for the changed dates.

You don’t have to do anything unless you have a conflict. Email Jennifer Grosse: JGrosse@ameliaconcours.org but only if you are now unable to go.

As is the norm, all the Morgans will rendezvous on Saturday morning at 0730, before the Cars and Coffee event.

Looking forward to the event and hope to see you there!! There will be more information published if and when it becomes available.

2021 Cars and Coffee at Amelia Island – Location for the Friday Evening (Mar 5, 2021) Noggin

As is the norm, MOGSouth will have a Noggin on the Friday evening (March 5, 2021) before the Saturday Cars and Coffee event (March 6, 2021) on Amelia Island, the weekend of the big Concours d’Elegance. The Concours d’Elegance is on Sunday, March 7, 2021.

To make is easier on the masses, we have moved the Noggin a bit south, and will convene the MOGSouth Noggin around 5 PM at the Surf Restaurant, along A1A, 3199 S. Fletcher Avenue, Fernandina Beach, FL.

It is the same location we use to rendezvous on Saturday morning before the Cars and Coffee event. There is parking in the lot out front as well as behind the restaurant.

We haven’t used this location for the Noggin, as yet, but the staff seems quite excited to have us. The menu looks quite good and there appears to be sufficient parking. (Click on the link above to go to their web page!)

2021 Cars and Coffee at Amelia Island – Registration is Now Open!!

As many of you know, the Amelia Island, GA Concours d’Elegance weekend is traditionally a big weekend for MOGSouth. For many of us, the start to the new Morgan year. This year (2021) will be similar to the previous few years.

We will have our MOGSouth Noggin on Friday (5 March) evening and we will again participate in the Saturday (6 March) Cars and Coffee. The formal Concours d’Elegance is scheduled for Sunday (7 March) but has in the past been moved up to Saturday if the weather is challenging.

As is the norm you have to register for the 2021 Cars & Coffee at Amelia Island event to bring your Morgan and you have to be accepted.  (They will send a letter.) You need not register if you don’t want to bring your car and simply want to spectate.

However, it is best to register, even if you are unsure. The registration form is attached below. The earlier you register, the more likely you will be accepted. They are limited in the number of cars accepted due to space constraints, so don’t procrastinate. If you don’t use your acceptance you can always give it to someone else who didn’t get accepted. So Register now!! Cars and Coffee Registration for 2021.

The MOGSouth Spring Noggin will again be on Friday (5 March), starting at 5PM until going until whenever, at the TBD. Note: We are working to find a warmer spot for the Noggin. Last year it was quite good but a bit too chilly for us. We will communicate the location as soon as it is confirmed.

Then Saturday morning (6 March), those of us with Morgans, will all gather at 0730 at the Surf Restaurant’s front parking lot, along A1A (3199 S. Fletcher Avenue, Amelia Island, FL.)

From experience we know that if we don’t arrive together, we will be parked where ever they have a space, and most likely not together.

We will only wait at the Surf Restaurant for 10 minutes or less, so don’t be late!

For those coming from out of town, there are a number of Lodging options. You can stay on Amelia Island or in Fernandina Beach, if you can get a room (they go very fast) and you are willing to pay the price (they are very expensive.) Alternatively there is a Hampton Inn, Jacksonville East, Regency Square that is just south of the Jacksonville -395 bridge over the St Johns River and just a short (45 – 50 min) drive along FL-105 to Amelia Island.

Plan on a great Morgan weekend and we hope to see you there!!

Cheers, Mark
